During this coronavirus pandemic, millions of people took to the Zoom video chat software to work and study from home. You may have seen someone in your community having some fun with their history, making it look like they are walking the Golden Gate Bridge or floating in outer space.
When you work from home and want to cover your messy workplace, or when you don’t want to violate your colleagues’ privacy during your next Zoom meeting, changing your background will help a lot.
It features two settings that will help with your overall look: Zoom Virtual Background and Touch Up My Appearance.
The virtual backgrounds of Zoom are one of the features that make it a standout option for remote working and meeting professionals.
The default Zoom context options are limited, though: Depending on which Zoom device you are using, with the Golden Gate Bridge, some grass blades, or a shot of Earth from outside space, you can only cover the room behind you.
How to change your Zoom background on your desktop app?
- Download & Run the Zoom app on Windows/Mac/Linux.
- Click on the Sign-in button and click on the Settings icon right below the profile icon.
- Next, go to the Virtual Background page and tick the checkbox if you have a green background or not.

How to change your Zoom background on your mobile app?
- When you log into your account and join a meeting, tap the three dots at the bottom right of the screen to open the More menu.

- Select a background from the default options, or upload your own.
Note: Android apps currently do not allow Zoom in virtual backgrounds.
Virtual backgrounds are supported on Windows, macOS and iOS devices that meet the minimum requirements, but devices that do not meet those requirements may still use virtual backgrounds with a green screen that will help the device distinguish between you and the surroundings.
